Ads in Instagram Reels: All that you need to know

Instagram is all the rage now, today, hardly any millennial or Gen Z individual exists who isn’t registered on it. Instagram wants to expand its business horizons to another level, and for this, it keeps launching various in-app features like IGTV, Story Highlights, AR face filters, etc.

Reels- The newest yet most popular addition

Among these features, one which got the maximum attention was Reels. This feature is inspired by the content format of the short video-sharing app TikTok. Reels allow you to create short videos to share with your friends or anyone on Instagram.

In this blog of Sampark Infoways, know about what are Instagram Reels and the update regarding the addition of ads in Instagram Reels.

With the help of Reels, you can record and edit 15-second multi-clip videos with your preferred audio, effects, and new creative tools. You can share them with your followers on Feed, and, if you have a public account, display them to a wider Instagram community through a new space in Explore.

Instagram shows you Reels of users who you don’t follow or aren’t required to follow. The Reels are shown to users on the basis of their interest or the topics they follow. Sometimes those Reels which are gaining a lot of traction on the app or are being shared by a lot of users are made up by Instagram.

Ads on Instagram Reels

As ads are the primary sources of revenue for Instagram, they will now start to appear on Reels as well, across the globe. Ads in Instagram Reels will look just like any other Reel – full-screen, up to 30 seconds long, and will appear in between other reels. They will be identified by a tiny “sponsored” tag below the name of the advertiser’s account. Users can view, like, comment, save and share Reels ads.

Ads in Instagram Reels will appear in those popular places which are used to access Reels content. This comprises the Reels tab, Reels in Stories, Reels in Explore, and Reels in user feed. Once a user taps a Reel from Stories, Feed, the Reels Tab or Explore, they’ll enter a window that exclusively displays reels that scroll vertically.

Reel Ads are just like any other ad on Instagram. Users will be provided with controls on the Reels ads they see. If users see an ad they don’t like, they can skip the ad, hide or report it.

Instagram had begun testing Ads in Instagram Reels in India, Brazil, Germany, and Australia in April. Honestly, we feel there’s nothing particularly surprising about Reels ads making their way into the app. The thing which actually surprised us is the speed with which Instagram has moved to turn this new format into a profit generator.

Instagram claims that Reels ads will allow businesses to reach greater audiences, helping people to discover new content from brands and creators. Businesses may interpret this as great news, but the same can’t be said about users who will be seeing ads in between the Reels.

Though Instagram has not shared any official stats on Reels usage, Adam Mosseri – prime chief of Instagram- has claimed that the option is growing rapidly, relating to both the number of users sharing and their consumption. Instagram has also stated that the usage of Reels has surged exponentially in India as TikTok was banned last June (and Reels was launched just days later).

Conclusion

Ads in Instagram Reels is a good step for advertisers to promote their products / services in short video format. Businesses can take advantage of this lucrative opportunity and make this feature do wonders for their goals. But at the same, it’s difficult to claim how effective this format will be, as it hugely depends on how creative, and engaging you make your ad content.
